The Oldest Inn In Virginia Is Also One Of The Most Haunted Places You’ll Ever Sleep
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, there’s something truly eerie about spending the night in a building that’s been around for over 200 years. Just ask anyone who’s stayed the night at the Wayside Inn, the oldest continuously-run inn in America. Built in 1797, this accommodation is beautiful, yet definitely has an element of the paranormal. Read more about how the oldest inn in Virginia is also quite possibly the most haunted places you’ll ever sleep.
Tucked away in the quaint town of Middletown awaits one of the most historic buildings in Virginia.
When you visit today, you'll notice that the inn has retained its historic feel. Little of the decor changed since the eighteenth century, yet the space is also renovated for a comfortable stay.
That is, of course, unless you encounter something spooky. Room 14 and 16 in particular are said to be incredibly haunted. It's also said that Civil War veterans frequently visit the lobby.
Photographed below is the oldest room in the inn, which is approximately 218 years old. Down in this cellar, it's possible to hear footsteps or feel an unexplainable cold spot.
Of course, these things seem to only add to the charm and allure of the Wayside Inn. The paranormal encounters have seemed to be friendly or mysterious, but never too troubling.
The Wayside Inn is located at 7783 Main St, Middletown, VA 22645. What are your thoughts on this incredibly historic landmark? Have you encountered anything paranormal here? We’d love to hear from you!
