Here’s more on the mesmerizing trail that will show you the very best of the Virginia countryside:
The Virginia Creeper Trail is one of the most iconic rail-to-recreation trails in Virginia. Spanning across two counties — Abingdon and Damascus — this trek shows off some of the best views in Virginia.
While the trail is mostly known as a biking path, this multi-use trail is also perfect for hiking, strolling, horseback riding, fishing, and even people watching.
Along the way, hikers will learn about the trail’s unique railroad history as well as the nearby flora and fauna of the beautiful Virginia countryside.
The Virginia Creeper Trail begins at Whitetop Station near the second highest peak in the state. From here, it’s virtually all downhill as the trail meanders past creeks, farmlands, forests, and fields.
The trail will also intersect with friendly trail towns, which are full of charm, history, and opportunities to sit back and enjoy some local fare.
Fortunately, there are plenty of access points, so you can create your own itinerary for experiencing this lengthy trail. Whether you divide it up into a few day hikes or decide to tackle the entire thing, you’ll feel like you’ve experienced the true Virginia countryside.
