9 Undeniable Habits That No Virginian Can Ever Unlearn
Here in Virginia, we’ve acquired a few habits that tend to set us apart from the other states. For better or worse, these traits are nearly engrained into our lifestyles and they are hard to forget. So, if you’ve lived in the Old Dominion long enough, chances are you are all too familiar with these 8 undeniable habits that no Virginian can ever unlearn.
1. Our manners.
Virginians are nothing if not polite! We will display our impeccable manners no matter how many times we're told it's not always necessary to say "yes, ma'am" or "yes, sir."
2. Checking the weather at least twice a day.
Even if we've left the great state of Virginia, we'll always keep an eye on the weather. Having experienced rain, snow, and sunshine all in the same week, we've learned that you can never be too careful.
3. Scanning the road for deer.
Deer are notorious for popping out at at any given time, especially at dusk. We Virginians have well-trained eyes when it comes to spotting these beautiful yet unpredictable creatures.
4. Our love of the mountains.
No matter how far we may roam, nothing beats the gentle and moving landscape of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
5. Identifying as a Wahoo or a Hokie.
Here in Virginia, we take our college football very seriously. Chances are, you either root for the UVA Wahoos or the VT Hokies. And the lines of loyalty are strong!
6. Keeping some of these stashed away in case company comes over.
Especially during the holidays, there's nothing like a handful of Hubs peanuts to get a party started.
7. Waving hello to friends and strangers alike.
Whether in the car or walking down the sidewalk, we're always inclined to smile or wave hello to others. Chalk it up to our wonderful Southern hospitality!
8. Taking off for "the rivah" at any chance we can get.
Yes, we are crazy about the Northern Neck area and yes, we will always refer to it as "the Rivah."
9. Expressing ourselves on the road.
Last but not least, Virginians are known for having some truly unique vanity plates. You can always learn a lot about a Virginia driver based on their plates.
