Plummeting nearly 70 feet, Cascade Falls is undoubtedly one of the most striking waterfalls in Virginia. Half of the waterfall is free-fall while the other half cascades down a staircase-like rock formation.
Getting to the waterfall means hiking nearly two miles through Jefferson National Forest. Fortunately, the trek is moderately easy and involves scenic stream crossings and beautiful views along the way.
Arriving at the falls, you'll find the urge to take a dip almost undeniable. The pool of water at the base of the waterfall isn't only refreshing; it's also one of the best places to admire the waterfall.
The falls can be notoriously crowded during the summer, but fortunately, Little Stoney Creek lends itself to several hidden-away swimming spots that will do the trick.
Those who have frequented these waters warn that the water is "ice cold," so be prepared! Swimming shoes also help navigate the slippery rocks you'll encounter.
Of course, you certainly don't have to take the plunge to appreciate how special Cascade Falls is. Even if you just dip your toes in, you'll feel revived by this lovely waterfall swimming hole in Virginia.
