A Springtime Polar Vortex Is Headed For Virginia And Temperatures Will Plummet To A Record-Breaking Low
Unfortunately, the arrival of springtime here in Virginia doesn’t guarantee that the weather will follow suit. Weather forecasts indicate that the East Coast will soon see a record-breaking cold front for the month of May. States in New England could even experience heavy snowfall. Beginning on Friday, May 8th, a Northeastern-bound storm will clash with Arctic air in a phenomenon known as a polar vortex. Virginia is likely to experience lots of rain along with near-freezing temperatures and in some areas, a dusting of snow.
A surge of cold air will arrive in the eastern U.S. over the weekend, setting record temperatures across the board. Along the eastern seaboard, highs and lows will be 20 degrees below their average temperature.
The radar below, courtesy of the National Weather Service, indicates the forecasted temperatures for the evening of Friday, May 8th and early morning of Saturday, May 9th.
