There’s nothing like discovering a beautiful waterfront view. Virginia offers many such places, although none are quite as secluded as Savage Neck Dunes Natural Area Preserve on the Eastern Shore. Showcasing a beautiful stretch of coastline and the Chesapeake Bay, this destination is tailor-made for warm weather. (Although it’s truly beautiful in any season). The tranquil, still waters of the Bay offer a mesmerizing blue hue during certain hours. You’ll be tempted to kick off your shoes, wade in the water, and enjoy the serene landscape around you.
Savage Neck Dunes is a beautiful stretch of shoreline and marine protected area located near Cape Charles, Virginia. If you live outside the Eastern Shore, rest assured that the journey across the Bay is well worth it.
From the parking area, visitors will follow a short, shaded trail that leads to the beach. In fact, there are a few nature trails in the area that you'll want to explore.
You'll find the beach to be a little slice of coastal heaven. These calm, tranquil waters set the stage for an unforgettable experience in nature. Just look at all of those beautiful shades of blue!
Near the water, the sand is very fine and the water is mesmerizingly calm. The tides can change drastically, and during low tide, you'll notice stretches of sand bars.
It's important to remember that this beach is part of a protected area, so visitors need to be mindful of the many beautiful creatures that call this spot home.
