There’s An Incredible Meteor Shower Happening This Summer And Virginia Has A Front Row Seat

Nothing is quite as spectacular as a natural lights show.

That’s exactly what stargazers can expect from the Perseid Meteor Shower, an annual event that brings spectators outside at dark to marvel at the night sky. The show takes place between July 17th and August 24th, and this year’s event is predicted to be at its brightest on the nights of August 11th and 12th. Here’s more on this spectacular event and where you’ll want to head for a front row seat.

Each summer, Staunton River State Park attracts countless night sky enthusiasts for an unbelievable view into the solar system.

Staunton River is a designated Dark Sky Park, meaning there's almost no light pollution to prevent viewers from seeing the dazzling stars in the night sky, and even the Milky Way itself.

This August will prove to be particularly memorable as the Perseid Meteor Shower arrives to the U.S.

It's predicted that during this year's Perseid Meteor Shower, there will be an estimated 60 to 70 meteors per hour. Can you imagine anything more magical?

While you may notice some telescopes out there, all you need to enjoy the stars are your own two eyes and some blankets to stay warm.

Visitors can even set up tents at the park and fall asleep under the stars.
