Located in the historic and quaint river town of Kilmarnock, the Car Wash Cafe is one of the most unique dining spots in the entire state. It might look like a car wash that just happens to serve food, but the food here is actually the main attraction. The kitchen uses local seafood, produce, and incredible seasonings to make your breakfast or lunch an unforgettable experience.
In 2015, this spot was voted by Virginia Living as Best Place For Lunch in the Eastern region. It's open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week, from 8:00 AM - 2:30 PM (2:00 PM on Sundays).
Inside, you'll find a cafe that's clean, cozy, and has an inviting atmosphere. The friendly staff will be eager to meet any guests that are passing through. There's also no wall between the dining space and the kitchen, so you'll be able to see all the action as your food is prepared.
There's just nothing like the variety of homemade plates you'll find at Car Wash Cafe. Photographed above is the classic Huevos Rancheros, accompanied by all the delicious fixings.
By far, one of the most popular breakfast plates here is the eggs Benedict accompanied by lump crabcakes and homemade grits. If you're looking for the full Car Wash experience, this dish is a MUST.
As mentioned before, lunch fare here is equally impressive. Ranging from salads, soups, and sandwiches, the cafe has just about any lunch item you could hope for -- and then some.
