Tucked away near the Charlottesville reservoir awaits a memorable hike that meanders along the river and leads to a cascading waterfall. Big Branch Falls is less than 5 miles round trip and is relatively easy. Hikers and nature enthusiasts alike will want to add this dreamy waterfall hike to their adventure bucket list.

Not far from Charlottesville, this family-friendly trail is appropriate for hikers of different skill levels.
About one mile into the hike, you'll encounter a few river crossings. If you don't mind getting your feet wet, these crossings can be wonderfully refreshing.
If you'd like to avoid the stream crossings on your return trip, you can opt for the small path that leads up the cliffs on the east side of the river. This route also lends itself to gorgeous views of the landscape.
