This Might Just Be The Most Enchanting Town In All Of Virginia
While nearly all of Virginia’s small towns have an undeniable charm, there’s one in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley that just might be the most enchanting of them all. Located in Page County, the town of Luray is most often associated with the nearby caverns. Yet it turns out that what’s above ground is just as appealing. With its mountainscapes, friendly small town, and incredible natural attractions, Luray promises an enthralling day trip.
Welcome to Luray, Virginia. Since its beginnings in 1812, the town has welcomed visitors near and far to its charming historic district and breathtaking natural landscape.
Surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Luray and the nearby New Market Gap can both be admired from Skyline Drive. This scenic route provides the perfect introduction to one of Virginia's most naturally beautiful towns.
Driving down Main Street, you'll realize that the small town is every bit as enchanting as it appears from a distance.
Visitors to this town of nearly 5,000 will enjoy strolling past colorful storefronts, historic buildings, and locally owned cafes.
Gathering Grounds Patisserie & Cafe is the perfect place to stop for a cup of coffee and a pick-me-up.
Of course, no trip to Luray is complete with out an excursion below the earth to the famous Luray Caverns.
Be sure to toss a quarter or two into the lagoon-like wishing well located deep within the caverns. Can you imagine a more enchanting afternoon activity?
Situated just opposite of the Luray Caverns entrance is the town's second most iconic landmark: the singing tower.
This 117-foot tower is a memorial building that contains in it 47 bells, which create a breathtakingly beautiful sound when played together. If you're lucky, you may even get to enjoy one of the free concerts held here.
As the sun begins to set behind the mountains, you'll feel as though you've found a little slice of heaven in the mountains of Virginia.
Whether it's your first time visiting or your 50th, there's no denying the magic of Luray.
