One such case is an insect known as the Kissing Bug. Despite its friendly name, this insect has been known to cause infection and, in the most severe cases, death. While the bugs are found mostly in Latin America, they also live in the southern U.S. and have been spotted as far north as Delaware. As you can see in the map below, there have also been sightings of the insect in Virginia.
