This One Of A Kind Maple Festival Is So Perfectly Virginia
Spring is just around the corner, and that means that we are officially entering festival season here in Virginia. In fact, one of the most iconic festivals in Virginia is just a few weeks away. The annual Highland Maple Festival attracts thousands of visitors from around the country to the otherwise sleepy town of Monterey. It’s here that you can learn about the process of making maple syrup while enjoying some seriously delicious local goodies.
Here’s a peek at what’s in store this year:
Highland County is an absolutely breathtaking corner of Virginia. With gentle rolling hills and the closeness of the mountains, it’s no mystery why this area is nicknamed "Little Switzerland."
Thousands upon thousands of visitors make their way to Highland County each year to experience the unique tradition of maple syrup-making. In fact, the Library of Congress has even deemed this event a "Local Legacy."
During the festival weekend, visitors can participate in sugar camp tours to learn firsthand how the delicious syrup is made.
Other not-to-be missed events of the festival include homemade breakfasts, trout dinners, antique shopping, bluegrass music, and of course, melt-in-your-mouth maple donuts.
Don’t be surprised if you have to wait in line to try one of these delicious creations.
And if you thought pancakes were just for breakfast...think again! Visitors are encouraged to order a stack any time of day.
There will also be plenty of opportunities to browse for souvenirs from Highland County. After tasting this local syrup, you'll have trouble enjoying generic brands.
The Highland Maple Festival will take place over two weekends this year: Saturday, March 10th and Sunday, March 11th as well as Saturday, March 17th and Sunday, March 18th. You won’t want to miss it!
