If you're looking for an adventure in the woods, you can't do much better than Hazel Falls and Caves Trail in Shenandoah National Park. Beautiful in all seasons, this trek promises views, fresh air, and seclusion.
The trail is located within Shenandoah National Park, which does require an entrance fee to enter. For easy access to the trail, park at Meadow Spring parking lot at mile 33 on Skyline Drive.
The hike is considered to be relatively easy, as it gradually descends downhill on its way to the waterfall. Hikers have noted that the trail is in good condition and well-marked.
As you approach the waterfall, you'll notice two caves, one of which is obvious. The other is more obscured. The last 0.2 miles of the trail are the steepest and most strenuous.
Fortunately, the waterfall itself will be worth your effort. The falls is beautiful year-round and makes for a great stopping point before making your way back to the trailhead.
In the summer months, many hikers enjoy taking a dip in this natural swimming hole before making their way back. You can imagine how refreshing this would be!
