This Restaurant In Virginia Used To Be A Gas Station And You’ll Want To Visit
The idea of a gas station converted into a restaurant may not sound immediately appealing. But once you’ve visited Petersburg’s Bistro at Market and Grove, you’ll be changing your tune. The beautiful restaurant venue has been serving up fresh and local fare since 2006. Look closely, though, and you’ll be able to detect a few clues about the building’s life before the restaurant. Here’s more about the fascinating evolution of the Bistro at Market and Grove.

Unless you knew the story behind the Bistro at Market and Grove, chances are you’d have no idea that this was once the site of Ritchie’s Mobilgas. The few hints that remain are the structuring of the dining room, which was the main garage, and the fact that the steel engine hoist is still part of the building.

All other signs of this Petersburg establishment point to its identity as a chic and delicious restaurant. The Bistro opened in 2006 and has since been welcoming diners from near and far to enjoy some of the finest dining in the area. The outdoor patio is equally charming as the indoor dining room, complete with colorful art and other festive decor.

While the decor and history behind the building is certainly fascinating, one of the biggest draws is of course the food. The menu features plenty of locally sourced seafood with creative accents. For a real southern treat, be sure to order the crab cake entree with creamed corn.

Other favorites include shrimp crostini and any of the seafood pastas. The fare here can be described as upscale American with some unconventional twists. It’s not unusual to find appetizers such as red grapes and spinach-stuffed sausages.

Last but not least, the dessert is simply to die for. Whether you’re sampling a piece of the creme brûlée cheesecake or homemade apple pie, you might have to resist the temptation to order seconds and thirds. Your trip to the Bistro at Market and Grove will be memorable for the decor, and remarkable for the meal.
You can find this fabulous eatery at 422 N Market St, Petersburg, VA 23803. For hours and more information, visit their Facebook page.
