It’s a little early to spot the signs of fall, but we Virginians know that the months of autumn are ephemeral. With that in mind, we’ve planned a road trip that will lead you to some of the most magnificent leaf-peeping sites in the state.

Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll around the impressive Lake Anna or enjoying the views from a kayak, you won't be disappointed by your detour to this gorgeous state park.
The picturesque James River State Park is a preservation of a portion of the Kanawha Canal in Buckingham County. The farm meadows, stretches of shoreline and gorgeous forests lend themselves perfectly to the changing season.
Stunning in any season, Douthat State Park in Millboro becomes all the more enchanting with its burning hues of red, orange, and gold. While you're there you can take a wooded trail or simply sit back and admire the view from a picnic area.
Where fall foliage is concerned, you won't find a more dramatic or breathtaking view than the one from Shenandoah National Park. Take the iconic Skyline Drive as you continue north through the Shenandoah Valley.
