Tucked away in Patrick County, Virginia, you’ll find one of the six original Virginia State Parks. Its name, Fairy Stone, immediately conjures up mythical imagery of a fairy-tale like setting. The namesake feature of Fairy Stone State Park is a small, cross-shaped crystal that’s said to bestow good luck upon those that find one. Measuring nearly 5,000 acres in size, Fairy Stone State Park is a breathtaking natural area in southwestern Virginia.
The famous "fairy stones" are composed of the unique mineral staurolite and were created along with the formation of the Appalachian Mountains. The stones can be collected from the ground, but visitors are not allowed to dig for them.
Hiking along the Little Mountain Trail System, you'll enjoy the mountainous landscape of hardwood forests and beautiful views of the lake. Keep your eyes peeled to see if you spot any crystals along the way!
Guests are also invited to rent a cabin or choose from several camp sites. You may be tempted to stay multiple nights to enjoy all that this wonderful park has to offer.
