Each spring, the beautiful town of Gloucester welcomes the arrival of the season with its annual Daffodil Festival. This year's event is scheduled for Saturday, April 6th and Sunday, April 7th.
The weekend festivities will begin with a parade around the historic Courthouse Circle. You'll be enchanted by the daffodil displays, all-day live entertainment that includes singers and magicians, and the unique backdrop of downtown Gloucester.
While you're in town, you'll love learning about why daffodils are special to Gloucester County. When the area was founded in 1651, the settlers brought with them daffodil bulbs as a reminder of spring in England.
These flowers thrived in the climate of this region of Virginia and by the 1930s, Gloucester was put on the map as the "Daffodil Capital of America." What better a way to celebrate this title than a beautiful spring festival?
Festival-goers will enjoy all sorts of fun crafts, games, and food vendors. The food court will offer a little of everything from barbecue to funnel cake.
So whether you're an avid fan of spring or have a weakness for flowers, you'll love visiting this one-of-a-kind festival in Virginia. Plus, you can purchase bulbs for sale to be planted in the fall. It's the perfect way to take a little bit of Gloucester home with you.
