Located outside of Charlottesville at a namesake winery known as Barboursville Vineyards, you'll find one of the most impressive and fascinating architectural landmarks in Virginia: the Barboursville Ruins.
Sadly, the home was devastated by fire on Christmas Day of 1884. The flames destroyed everything except the brick walls, columns, and interior masonry partitions.
Fortunately, it's still possible to see the ruins today. While visiting them is a haunting experience, there's something undeniably alluring about what remains.
Plus, you'll want to make time to visit the Barboursville Vineyards, just a stone's throw away. Their specialty wines pay homage to the Barboursville Mansion.
Have you visited the Barboursville Ruins or explored the winery? If so, we’d love to hear all about your experience there! For more information, be sure to visit the official Barboursville Vineyards Facebook Page.
