We have a lot to be proud of here in Virginia. That’s especially true of our opportunities for outdoor adventure. For example, did you know that Virginia is home to more miles of the famous Appalachian Trail than any other state? That’s right; if you take the Appalachian Trail through Virginia, you’ve officially hiked a quarter of the entire trail. Here’s more on the portion of the beautiful Appalachian Trail in our state.
If you're a hiking enthusiast and have spent enough time exploring Virginia, chances are you've experienced at least a few miles of the famous Appalachian Trail.
This challenging trail follows the Appalachian Mountain chain and crosses a total of 14 states: Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Anyone planning on hiking the entire Appalachian Trail can expect to spend at least a quarter of the time in beautiful Virginia. The Old Dominion is home to 544 miles!
So whether you're looking for a beautiful day hike or perhaps a multi-day adventure, you can take a lot of pride knowing the Appalachian Trail in Virginia is the longest - and most beautiful - portion of the entire route.
