This Restaurant In Vermont Is Located In The Most Unforgettable Setting
When it comes to farm-to-table dining, Vermont is top notch. Fresh and locally sourced dishes can be found everywhere from fine dining restaurants to mom and pop shops, and on busy streets to remote farms. But there is one restaurant that has a totally unexpected and unforgettable setting… in the back of a general store. That’s right, in the small town of Pittsfield at the back of the Pittsfield Original General Store is The Backroom, a new restaurant that the New York Times calls “New England’s Coolest Dinner Party.”

Located just four miles from the base of Killington on Route 100, The Original General Store has everything you want, including crafted artisanal products, a 500-bottle wine cellar, Vermont cheeses and charcuteries and everyday sundries and essential items.

Cheese made with Heady Topper? Yes, please!

The Backroom is an intimate dining room with an open kitchen and offers one dinner seating every Friday and Saturday night throughout the winter months.

Katie runs the front of house service and the beverage program, highlighting lesser-known local spirits and boutique wines that further customize the dining experience.

Here you’ll enjoy a set three course menu that changes daily, based on local ingredient availability.

The owners open their pantry up to guests, and allow them to explore their work space, ingredients and process as much as they would like.

In the past, customers have dropped by just to say hi and see what was going on in the kitchen while dropping off samples of homemade sausage, impossible to find craft beer favorites, and freshly hunted venison steaks.

From June to Thanksgiving they cater high-end destination weddings by their catering company Vermont Farms Catering.

The local press loves The Backdoor, and it's also received rave reviews in Departures Magazine and The New York Times.
