11 Unassuming Restaurants To Add To Your Vermont Dining Bucket List
In Vermont we know better than to judge a book by its cover, and these unassuming restaurants are proof. The dishes you’ll find here are made with fresh ingredients and a whole lot of love. How many have you tried?
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While we’re continuing to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, we don’t expect or encourage you to go check them out immediately. We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:
1. The Wheel Inn - 730 Lake Rd., Benson
This place is just like your mom's cooking... that is, if your mom is a really good cook! Wonderful breakfasts, lunches and dinners, but the desserts deserve a special shout out!
2. The Family Table - 4807 VT Rt 15, Jeffersonville
Whether you are coming off the mountain after a day of skiing, or you are looking for a great night out, you'll love what's being served up at the Family Table. Not sure what you're in the mood for? This menu has a wide variety to please everyone at reasonable prices.
3. Lil' Britain - 116 North Street, Bennington
If you're in the mood for dynamite fish tacos or bangers and mash, look no further. While their fish n' chips are what they're famous for, you may want to try the chip sandwich. French fries on a butter bun may sound strange, but trust me... it's delicious!
4. Crazy Russian Girls Neighborhood Bakery - 443 Main St., Bennington
With a name like Crazy Russian Girls Bakery, you've just got to give it a try. Wander up to their display case and you'll have a hard time choosing because everything looks delicious. We bet that this birch tree cake tastes better than it looks - and it looks pretty amazing!
5. Sandwich Shoppe - 52 Merchants Row, Rutland
It may not be fancy, but this family-owned and operated burger and sandwich joint is phenomenal. The menu is a huge mural style chalk wall with some of the most creative burgers and deli style sandwiches you'll ever find. Try something a little out of the ordinary - you'll be glad you did.
6. Moon Dog Cafe - 295 Main Street, Chester
This quirky all-in-one shop has the best of everything - especially their food! You'll enjoy the fun dishes such as French toast stuffed with cream cheese and bananas or a ham, apple and brie sandwich.
7. Mike’s Tiki Bar - 44 Belden Hill Road, East Burke
This is a fun outdoor bar at the base of the Kingdom Trails mountain biking routes. Sit outside on benches in the sun and try one of the 30 or so beers on tap.
8. Three Stones - 105 Canal Street, Brattleboro
These recipes have been passed down for centuries, and in Brattleboro you can taste them for yourself. Share the experience of Mayan culture through the delightful dishes at Three Stones.
9. Chef Brads "Crazy Side" - 6 Damon Road, Hartland
You'll absolutely love this little BYOB place at the side of the road. This local favorite has great food for an even better price. Freshly prepared meals in a food truck and an old school bus that has indoor seating if the weather isn't cooperating.
10. Folino’s Pizza - 6305 Shelburne Road, Shelburne
This wood fired pizza shop is a BYOB and first come first serve seating restaurant. They are located in the same building as Fiddlehead Brewery, this is a great place for a pizza pie that's pure bliss.
11. Eaton's Sugar House - 5894 Vermont 14, South Royalton
One of the best things to pair with VT maple syrup is fresh and fluffy pancakes, and Eaton's Sugar House serves up some of the best in the state. In fact, everything is good at Eaton's!
