A Trip To Putney General Store In Vermont Is Like Stepping Back In Time
Nowadays, you can drive along any major highway and come across dozens of big-box grocery stores like Walmart, Price Chopper and Hannaford. Gone are the days of small Ma and Pa shops located in the heart of small towns…at least for most towns. Luckily, there’s a few places in Vermont that are still home to these nostalgic locally-owned businesses and Putney, Vermont is one of them. One trip to Putney General Store, and you’ll feel like you’ve gone back in time.

In 2008, the store suffered a devasting fire which destroyed most of it. But the town came together and were able to rebuild it and bring it back to its glory.

Before the days of ordering from large distributors, general stores relied on local makers and farmers in the town to provide them with grocery products. Today, Putney General Store still locally-sources many of their items from other small businesses in Vermont.

Whatever your sweet tooth is craving, chances are you'll find it at the Putney General Store.

Do you remember going to a general store when you were a kid? Or had they disappeared in your town too at that time? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
