Before being the place of The Old Stone House Museum, this impressive building served as a student dormitory.
The marvelous granite stone building was designed and built in 1836 by Alexander Twilight, the first known African-American to receive a college degree in the United States. Mr. Twilight graduated from Middleburg College in 1823.
Not far from Willoughby State Park and Jay Peak, Brownington shares much of the beauty and peacefulness that is prevalent in this part of northern Vermont.
