Vermont is chock full of picturesque hiking trails. Some lead you to amazing overlooks while others take you to incredible places of history. Today’s spotlight shines on a short and sweet hike, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, that lands you in a beautiful storybook setting. Sterling Falls Trail in Stowe is off the beaten path but well worth the journey.
The Sterling Falls Interpretive Trail is located off of a long dirt road in Stowe. It feels remote and you may lose cell service, but the network of trails in the area is well worth the journey off the main drag.
Explore the short 1/2-mile trail for a little taste of nature's overwhelming beauty. If you prefer to take a longer journey, there are plenty of other trails to explore in this same area.
The path leads to a small waterfall that rushes between huge boulders to cascade into a delightful sylvan pool. You almost expect to catch a glimpse of a woodland fairy or elf peeking around a rock.
Before you reach the end of the trail, you will pass through the forest. One of our favorite sights is a tree that has encased a boulder with its roots.
Looking down into the gorge is a breathtaking sight of swirling water tumbling over the rocks below. Along the trail you'll also encounter informative signs explaining the geology of the area.
At the bottom, you'll find the natural pool full of crisp clear water. During the summer months, you might find a few swimmers taking a dip to cool down.
