You’ll Want To Take This Irresistible 90-Minute Hike In Vermont Again And Again
We all know that the Green Mountain State is home to some of the best hiking trails in New England. Whether you’re looking for an epic adventure or just a quick outing with the kids, you can find a hike in Vermont to fit the bill. Today we’re going to spotlight a medium length, moderate trail suitable for both thrill-seekers and families. At just 1.7 miles in length and plenty to see along the way, the Mount Olga Trail is an irresistible hike that you’ll return to again and again.
Located within Molly Stark State Park, the Mount Olga Trail is one of southern Vermont's natural treasures. The 1.7-mile trail takes approximately 90 minutes to complete depending on how long you linger. While you can navigate the well-maintained path quickly, you'll probably want to take your time and enjoy it.
The blue-blazed trail winds through the beautiful forest. Expect a moderate elevation gain but even families with younger energetic kids can easily complete the hike.
The woodland is full of northern hardwoods, fir, and spruce. There is something magical about traveling under the canopy across the pine needle-strewn paths beside the patches of vibrant green ferns.
Each season brings a refreshing perspective to the trail. Fall showcases the brilliant foliage, while Spring and Summer present lush greenery. Winter hiking in the snow gives visitors a chance to take a more solitary and quiet trip.
But this isn't just a scenic woodland trail. The big payoff arrives at the 0.9-mile mark where you can take a short spur trail to the summit. As you reach the top of Mount Olga, you'll be treated to some incredible scenery.
Take an exhilarating climb to the top of the lookout tower. This former fireman's watch perched on the 2,450-foot peak is kept open for the 360 degree views that it offers.
Not only can you see as far as Mt. Snow to the northwest, the visible landscape stretches into Massachusetts and Vermont. Experience the thrill of seeing (and photographing) the views from this vista.
The Mount Olga Trail is easily accessed from Molly Stark State Park in Wilmington. The park also offers overnight camping for those looking to extend their stay.
