A few interesting tidbits about the estate before we dive into the gardens: Robert Todd Lincoln purchased 500 acres for approximately $30 per acre in 1902-1903, and on April 18, 1903 construction began on the house. The house cost approximately $63,109, the terrace $1,777, and about $16,100 to build the carriage barn.
