Red beryl is found in just eight locations in the entire world: Utah's Wah Wah Mountains, Wildhorse Springs, Topaz Mountain, and Starvation Canyon; three locations in New Mexico; and San Luis Potosi in Mexico.

Of those places, red beryl of gemstone quality has only been found in the Ruby-Violet Claims in the Wah Wah Mountains. Red beryl crystals large enough to facet into gems are so rare that only one is found for every 150,000 diamonds of the same size and quality.
