The Bonneville Salt Flats Are One Of The Strangest Places You Can Go In Utah
Utah is filled with gorgeous natural landscapes. From towering mountains to glittering lakes, this state has a bit of everything. It also has something that is unlike any other spot in the nation – the Bonneville Salt Flats.
This bizarre but beautiful natural wonder is well worth a visit. Check it out below.
We challenge you to find a stranger spot in Utah than the Bonneville Salt Flats.
This spot is one of Utah’s most unique natural features. It truly looks like an alien landscape.
Though the flats might give you serious sci-fi vibes, this surreal terrain was actually formed by the evaporation of Lake Bonneville.
The ground here is covered in a thick layer of real salt. This gives the area an otherworldly white appearance.
The flats frequently appear in films and television shows, but their most popular use is as a racetrack for cars and motorcycles.
Conditions at the dry lakebed make it easy to achieve top speeds. In fact, the first land speed world record was set at the flats by Teddy Tetzlaff in 1914.
If you want to be truly blown away, try visiting just after a rainfall. The flats occasionally flood and transform into what looks like a giant mirror.
Visitors to the flats should not remove salt from the flats. You should also remember to pack plenty of water and slather yourself with sunscreen, as the reflection of light off the stark white landscape can lead to sunburns.
Have you visited this strangely beautiful spot in Utah? If not, now is the time!
