Utahns have long loved fry sauce as the best condiment for fries, burgers and anything dip-able. Now it’s catching on in the rest of the country. This article on Huffington Post last summer confirms what we’ve long suspected – fry sauce is spreading!

Don Carlos Edwards built his first Arctic Circle in 1950, in Salt Lake City. He invented several new food items, including the 'brown topper' - a vanilla, soft-serve cone dipped in chocolate, the 'ranch burger,' and 'fry sauce.'
As Arctic Circle locations popped up around the state, fry sauce became more of a Utah tradition.

Fry sauce experts disagree about the proper ingredients for the tasty condiment.

The Huffington Post article states that fry sauce often includes ingredients such as Worcestershire sauce or vinegar. Some Utah burger joints seem to add pickle or pickle relish to their sauce. At some spots, you'll find a smooth sauce that seems to have more ketchup than mayo; at other spots, you'll find a chunkier sauce with more mayo than ketchup. Arctic Circle's fry sauce includes just four ingredients: mayo, ketchup, buttermilk and sugar.
Pretty much every local burger joint in Utah offers fry sauce.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a local burger joint that doesn't offer up this condiment with its fries. Many even automatically include it on their burgers. Utahns are so accustomed to eating this delicious sauce, that even national chains often offer up some version of fry sauce (or will happily give you ketchup and mayo so you can mix your own).
Utahns who move away often cite 'fry sauce' as they thing they miss the most about the Beehive State.

Utahns often move out of state for school or work opportunities, and this is probably how our favorite condiment started to gain national attention. As Utahns move to other places, they introduce their friends, who often become hooked.

In 1991, Michael Thompson created his version of fry sauce, bottled it and started selling it. Some Dudes Fry Sauce is available now at Walmart, Target, Winco, Albertson's and many more retail locations.
