This One Easy Hike In Utah Will Lead You Someplace Unforgettable
There’s nothing like hiking in Utah’s canyons, and when you can complete a pretty easy hike, only to be rewarded with a waterfall, it’s hiking bliss! Donut Falls is a popular hike for people of all ages. While there’s no actual donuts involved, the donut-shaped waterfall is a nice, cool treat at the end.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Drive nine miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon, to the Mill D Trailhead. When it’s busy, you’ll park near here and walk the .75 miles to the Donut Falls trailhead. When it’s not busy, you can park in the small lot right in front of the Donut Falls trail.

The trail is well-marked and easy to navigate - it follows an old ATV trail for the first little bit. It’s only a half mile from the trailhead to Donut Falls.

The river follows alongside the trail.

The last bit of the hike requires you to get your feet wet (or hop from rock to rock to cross the river).

Once you get there, you can scramble up the boulders to the falls. Take care - the rocks are slippery and some people have suffered injuries from falls here.

Kids love the boulder-scrambling part up to the falls. Keep an eye on them, and don’t let them throw rocks from the top.

Climb under the falls for a real treat. The little cave below never gets any direct sun, so it’s always pretty chilly.

On a hot summer day, the cool falls feel amazing!
