There’s nothing more beautiful than a brightly-colored kite weaving and bobbing against a clear, blue sky. The 19th annual Dixie Power Kite Festival is right around the corner, and you’re going to want to make plans now to attend.

The 19th annual Dixie Power Kite Festival will be held Saturday, April 21st at Dixie State University.

The festival's main purpose is to encourage reading and provide a wholesome family activity.

Washington County elementary school students were issued a challenge at the beginning of the year: read books to earn fun prizes! Students who read at least the minimum number of hours between January 15th and April 21st will receive their choice of a book, a kite or a $10 voucher. The festival opens at 10 AM on April 21st. When you arrive, head to the redemption tent with your reading chart to redeem your prize!
As long as there's enough wind, these kites will fly high in the sky.

To earn a kite, kindergarten and first graders read a minimum of 50 minutes each week; second and third graders read at least 75 minutes per week; fourth and fifth graders read 100 minutes per week.
Even the littlest kite flyers can get in on the action.

Bring some lawn chairs, a blanket and an umbrella so you can relax and enjoy an entire day of kite-flying fun.

The festival runs until 7 PM, and you'll want to stay for the whole day, so bring plenty of water, sunscreen and comfy seating.
