Our road trip begins in the beautiful and popular Wheeler Historic Farm Park in Murray. This park is 73 acres and includes a working farm and barn animals. While there is plenty to do around the park, you can also get in some exercise by exploring the Wheeler Woods — 40 acres of beautiful forest. Admission is free but if you want to participate in special activities such as wagon rides, those activities do require small fees.

Did you know that Salt Lake City is home to one of only two peace gardens in the entire country? Located in the heart of Salt Lake City is our next stop — the International Peace Gardens. Located right along the Jordan River, this 12-acre garden represents more than 25 nations. A flat trail will take you through the beautiful gardens and if you plan your stop right, you may even visit during a special event or festival held on the property.

The next stop on our road trip is to historic Temple Square. Here, you can tour the most beautiful garden areas, remarkable buildings, and interactive exhibits. Even if you only have a few minutes, walk through the property and admire the incredible architecture. There are multiple buildings you can visit including the conference center, tabernacle, Beehive House, and more.

Located right by Temple Square is Crown Burgers, one of the best restaurants for hamburgers in Utah. This is the most expensive stop on our road trip but you’ll be grateful that you stopped in. While there are many items on the menu, Crown Burgers is best known for its pastrami cheeseburgers, and we highly suggest you dip your fries in this restaurant's incredible fry sauce.
Antelope Island State Park is one of the largest state parks in Utah. It is also one stop on this road trip where you could spend an entire day or even the entire weekend. This park has more than 28,000 acres filled with hiking trails, campgrounds, and extraordinary views. If you only want to stop for a few hours, we recommend searching for the free-ranging buffalo that call this unique island home. Be ready to pay the $15 vehicle entrance fee for this Utah state park.

The Hill Aerospace Museum is one of the coolest museums in Utah and even better, it is also free! This unique museum gets you up close to all types of planes from decades past. You can learn all about these planes and the history of flight, and even observe more than 4,000 objects such as military uniforms, photographs, and unique artifacts. If you have never been to the Spiral Jetty on the Great Salt Lake, you do not want to miss this stop on our affordable road trip in Utah. The Spiral Jetty is actually an outdoor art piece that was created in the 1970s by artist Robert Smithson. It is large – 1,500 feet long and 15 feet wide — and is made using more than 6,000 tons of black basalt rock. It's a terrific way to end this budget-friendly road trip.
