Sure, there are unmistakable signs of Civil War history as well as other noteworthy landmarks, yet it’s the vibrant art scene that really defines Virginia’s capital. From impressive street art to boutique hotels and renowned art exhibitions, this city is a haven for artists and art aficionados alike. Established on the banks of the mighty James River, the beautiful downtown Richmond makes for a picturesque skyline.
A closer look at the capital of Virginia, established in 1737, reveals an impressive array of historical landmarks. Yet these cobblestone streets don't just signify years gone by; they add to an entire aesthetic appeal.
History pairs with art in a way that is unmistakable and incredibly unique. Take, for example, the downtown destination of Quirk Hotel. This boutique accommodation is located inside what was once a 1916 luxury department store.
Of course, no trip to Richmond is complete without a visit to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, with its world-renowned exhibits and collections, some of which are free to tour.
