You've Never Experienced Anything Quite Like This Mesmerizing Hot Air Balloon Festival

There’s nothing quite as mesmerizing as dozens of balloons floating high up in the air over the countryside. You’ll find hot air balloon festivals all over the country, but there’s one that’s truly special. Check out the National Balloon Classic held in Indianola, Iowa.

From July 27th through August 4th, the skies over Memorial Balloon Field in Indianola, Iowa will fill with brightly-colored balloons for the annual National Balloon Classic.

A few days before the festival, on July 23rd, the traditional Balloon Flight Over Des Moines sets the stage for this epic festival.

Wake up early so you can see the balloons lift off at Dawn Patrol, which starts at 5:15 a.m. on July 28th and August 4th. On July 29th through August 3rd, catch the Competition Balloon Flight at 6:30 a.m..

Get some breakfast from local vendors while you wait for the balloons to get ready for launch.

There's nothing more exciting that watching these bright, gorgeous balloons rise upward into the sky.

Nearly 100 balloon pilots participate in the competitions, and you'll have a front row seat to see them work their magic.

After Dawn Patrol on the 28th, head downtown to Indianola Town Square for the Wacky Classic Parade.

Evening flights take place every night at 6:30 p.m....

Catch nightly concerts every evening. Admission to morning events is free; evening admission (including the concert) is just $5 per person. Bring cash to get in.
