This U.S. City Is About To Experience A Magical Midnight Sun

Though it might sound counterintuitive, the state that gets the most sunshine in the spring and summer is actually Alaska. The city of Fairbanks also gets something that few other places in the world experience: a midnight sun.

On the summer solstice, or the longest day of the year, some places on Earth experience 24 hours of daylight. The further north you go, the longer the sunshine. When you can step outside in the middle of the night and see blue sky, you’re officially experiencing a midnight sun.

We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

If you’re not in the area for this year’s solstice on June 21 to 22, stop by for next year’s event on June 21.

Of course, Fairbanks will be experience almost complete daylight for a few weeks more, so it’s still a great time to head to this unexpected city of sunshine.
