Maybe a certain room gives you the sensation that you’re being watched, or you get a case of the goosebumps every time you walk by a particular house. Check out this collection of American homes that exude creepiness. Some of them are supposedly haunted, while others simply have an appalling history. In all cases, these aren’t places you’d want to stick around after the sun goes down.
This San Diego home has been called the most haunted house in America. Built in the mid-1800s, the Whaley House is supposedly haunted by Yankee Jim Robinson, a criminal who was executed by hanging on the property. They offer ghost tours and "Silent Scream" movie nights.
This elaborate treehouse was built by James Talmage "Tokey" Walker as a playhouse for his grandchildren. The home include bedrooms, bathrooms and even a full working kitchen. Though most of the property has been destroyed, the eerie sight of this dollhouse in the trees is enough to give anyone chills.
On the evening of November 13, 1974, 23-year-old Ronald Joseph "Butch" DeFeo Jr. murdered his parents, two sisters and two brothers in their Amityville home. His chilling crime has inspired a slew of literary and film works, and made the Amityville home a truly unsettling site.
Located in the historic town of Salem, the site of the infamous Salem witch trials, the Joshua Ward house was the site of nineteen executions for witchcraft. The victims were hanged or burned alive. The property is currently selling for about $900k.
This retired ocean liner was known as "The Grey Ghost" during the second World War. It housed countless American soldiers, many of whom met their end during WWII. Today, the ship is a museum and hotel. However, the ship has been the site of at least 49 deaths. The most recent occured in 2011 when a hotel guest mysteriously plunged from a deck into the water below.

Built in 1832 in New Orleans, the home rose to infamy when it was discovered that Delphine Lalaurie was keeping the attic filled with mutilated, tortured and starving slaves. An angry mob drove Lalaurie from New Orleans and she was never heard from again.
8. Bamboo Forest House, Virginia
Deep inside a bamboo forest in Virginia, this old plantation home is being slowly reclaimed by the woods. Shoots of bamboo have grown right up beside the home, and have even pierced the interior. Check out the video to see for yourself.
This residential school for girls was built as a luxury hotel in 1893. In 1907, it opened as a college for women. However, the school closed in 1978 and has been abandoned ever since.
Built in 1888, this striking home was once one of many on Holland Island in the Chesapeake Bay. In the early 1920s, the island began to rapidly erode and sink into the bay. By 2010, only a single home remained. The structure has since collapsed on its foundations, but the images of it perched over the water are still quite eerie.
11. Charles Winship Mansion, Massachusetts
This home was built in the 19th-century by wealthy textile merchant Charles Winship. The home was eventually sold to a Theresa Whitaker in 1998, but was foreclosed upon in 2010. Since then, the home has remained empty. Check out the video for a peek inside this creepy abandoned structure.
