The Hidden Park In New York That’s Only Accessible By A Secret Key
Space is at a premium in New York City, especially in upscale Manhattan. Still, there is one swathe of green space that allows urbanites to enjoy the beauty of nature. That is if you have the right key.
Here’s what you need to know about Gramercy Park.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. Gramercy Park is a tucked-away park in Manhattan. It lies between Park Avenue and 3rd Avenue. This green space might not look like anything special at first glance, but it's actually one of the most exclusive spots in the Big Apple.

The only people who can access Gramercy Park are key-holders. To be a key-holder, you must live in one of the 39 buildings situated around the park. Even then, residents must pay a yearly fee of $350 for the privilege of owning a key. These keys are specially made to be nearly impossible to duplicate and the locks on the park gates are changed yearly. If you lose your key, you can expect to pay a replacement fee of $1,000.

If you don’t want to buy or rent around the park, you can also gain access to this private gem by staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel at 2 Lexington Ave. The staff there will escort guests to and from the park, as lending out keys is too risky. You can also gain admission to the park on Christmas Day to sing carols with the Parish of Calvary-St. George.
