Secret Abandoned Government City In The Woods

Fort Ord in Monterey County, California was a former U.S. military base. It once housed soldiers, their families, and even German prisoners of war.

Just beyond its borders, however, there lies another city. One that is entirely more surreal than any other abandoned ghost town.

Impossible City was built in 1984. Its streets are lined with stark, concrete buildings. Their rooms are empty, and their windows dark. No one lives in Impossible City, and no one ever has.

However, a few times a year, this town is flooded with visitors. Its parks and buildings come to life…with the sound of gunfire.

Impossible City is an active military training zone, designed to simulate an unfortunate reality of modern warfare: urban combat.

The U.S. government built this fake city in order to train soldiers to respond to everything from urban sniper fire to hostage situations, and even domestic terrorism.

This eerie community was built to be abandoned. It’s unnerving by design: the town is meant to represent every and any city, from a suburb in the American midwest, to an embattled town in the Middle East. Watch the footage below to see inside this incredible place:
