Located in Oregon's north central desert, White River Falls is a spectacular hidden gem. This little-known beauty cascades through a basalt canyon and pours into a gorgeous turquoise basin. This stunning hidden gem is located south of The Dalles in the little-known White River Falls State Park.
The White River winds through the landscape in a canyon chiseled away by years of flowing water.
At the end of an easy half-mile trail starting at the parking area, you'll find a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the falls. It's a perfect spot for relaxing, taking pictures, or picnicking!
This dramatic, tiered waterfall cascades a total of 90 feet. You can make your way down to the base of the falls to see it up close and do a bit of exploring.
There are some great little beaches along the river where you can kick back and relax. On a hot day, you can even wade into the gorgeous basin of the falls.
If you walk a little ways along the river you'll find an extraordinary abandoned hydropower plant that used to create energy for the area between 1910 and 1960.
If you'd like, you can poke around the historic facilities to get a sense of how it used to function.
White River Falls State Park is located just off of Sherars Bridge Highway 216 in Maupin. The waterfall is located at the end of a short, marked trail beginning at the parking area.
