With how fast everything seems to go these days, there is no shame in wanting to take a break, get away from it all, and go somewhere where it's still quiet and slow-paced. North Dakota still consists of mostly small farming communities so the options are plentiful. If you really want to stay in a place that is charming, serene, and interesting all at once, then you'll find your perfect spot right here:
Located in south central North Dakota and surrounded by farmland, the small town of Napoleon is the perfect destination for a quiet country getaway.
Napoleon is the picture perfect farm town. The town's grain elevator stands tall and many farms fill the area. It is a tight knit community with plenty of local businesses. Basically, it's the definition of a charming small town!
Napoleon was founded in 1886 and has a population just shy of 800 residents. Even at its peak population of a bit over 1,000 in 1980s, it's always been a little yet bustling place. It is the county seat of Logan County
The downtown area is lovely, even in the winter! There are quite a few local businesses including restaurants, a clothing boutique, coffee shop, and bakery.
Napoleon is also full of history. One great place to stay if you'd like to make the most of your relaxing getaway is the House of 1904 Bed & Breakfast. At well over a century old, this beautiful home is the prime, peaceful place you'll love.
Napoleon's beauty and charm doesn't stop there - the surrounding area is also gorgeous. You'll find bits of history among the prairie hills, like this old school house:
One attraction completely unique to Napoleon is the Dinosaurs on the Prairie. Located just outside of the town, this huge collection of antique threshing machines appears to march up a ridge as they rest here. The owner of them welcomes people to come see these relics of farming past up close.
Another nearby attraction is the scenic Beaver Lake and the state park surrounding it.
Beaver Lake State Park is a recreational heaven, with the huge and stunning lake, swimming beach, trails, campsites, and boat docks.
Whether you go for the quietness of the small town, the fantastic natural scenery, or a little bit of both, Napoleon is the perfect place to get away from it all.
Napoleon is located about 26 miles south off of I-94 on ND-3. You can visit the town's official website for more information on the local businesses and attractions.
