Pickles – you either love 'em or you hate 'em, but you can't deny that they have legions of devoted fans. What you may not realize is that the entire town of Winchester, New Hampshire, is basically obsessed with them. Each year, they hold a pickle festival, a tradition started 21 years ago to celebrate the town's Polish memories. It's definitely one of the most unique festivals in the Granite State, and it's unmissable. This year's festival will be held September 22, so mark your calendar now!
The Winchester Pickle Festival features a huge parade that practically the whole town attends, as well as a classic car show.
As you'd expect, there are plenty of free pickles to be had – you might blow through your daily salt quotient pretty quick, but it's worth the indulgence.
Naturally, there's a pickle-eating contest – with the trophy awarded by Mr. Pickle himself.
But just plain pickles by themselves might get boring after a while – so you'll find all sorts of creative pickle themed treats here. Some of them are not for the faint of heart!
Once you're all pickled-out (if that's such a thing) you'll find plenty of other options for sustenance at the fair. Tons of food vendors bring their most delicious wares to sell!
There's great live music at this festival – it's a real party, that's for sure!
Before you leave the festival, you absolutely need to pick up some swag. It's always fun and hilarious - the shirts make great conversation starters!
