We’re starting off this exciting adventure trip with a stop at Red Bluff, located near Foxworth, Mississippi. If you’re a morning person, this place is absolutely stunning to catch a sunrise. If not, no worries – beauty still abounds. While there isn’t an official state park designation here, you’ll be able to pull off the road to access the bluff. Just make sure to stay on the designated trails, as this is private land.

The overlook provides spectacular views of the deep canyon-like formations and surrounding forested areas. The contrast between the colorful exposed earth and flourishing greenery is a must-see and a perfect start to the trip. Make sure to snag some photos!

Next, we’re trekking over to Natchez State Park, which offers over 48,000 acres of recreational fun. Anglers will enjoy casting a line in the lake, which recently installed several bream beds to encourage growth. Disc golf trails, nature trails, and picnic sites round out the park experience; we recommend spending a few hours at this hidden gem. 

Fun fact: did you know this park holds the state record for Largemouth Bass at 18.5 lbs? Who knows, it may be your lucky day!

Another overlook on this road trip route, the Natchez Bluff Walking Trail offers a scenic journey along the very top of Natchez Bluff. Stroll along the upper portion of the trail, where you'll pass beautiful Victorian-era homes lining Clifton Avenue, which add a touch of historic charm. 

Interpretive panels along the route share the rich history of Natchez, a city founded in 1716. Benches are located along the trail, providing a place to rest and enjoy the scenic riverfront views. This is a great place to people watch or boat watch as the Mississippi River drifts on by.

Let’s take a break from outdoor adventuring and grab a hot meal in nearby Natchez. The Camp Restaurant is a beloved local spot with tons of delectable lunchtime options. Next, let’s paddle our way through St. Catherine Creek National Wildlife Refuge. With kayak or canoe rentals on-site, you’ll be able to get in the water and enjoy a stunning display of nature. Navigate the bayou slowly to take in the towering cypress trees draped in Spanish moss. Keep an eye out for egrets, turtles, and maybe even a lazy alligator basking on the banks.

6. Clark Creek Natural Area

Our trip ends at a delightful gem near Woodville. Clark Creek Natural Area is a publicly owned natural preserve that highlights rugged bluffs, scenic cascades, and much more. With over 700 acres of land and around 50 waterfalls, there’s no shortage of natural beauty here. We recommend hiking the Clark Creek Trail to Waterfall Trail, which ventures through the stunning forest and past several smaller waterfalls. It’s just under three miles, making it the perfect way to wrap up your day of adventure.
