Do you ever get the urge to jump into your car, roll the windows down, and take the scenic route? Louisiana has several scenic byways that will take you on a beautiful ride through the Pelican State, and one of the most underrated scenic drives in Louisiana is the Longleaf Scenic Byway. Gas up the car and get your epic playlist ready for one of the best scenic drives in Louisiana!
This Kisatchie National Forest scenic drive is one of the best ways to explore the picturesque beauty in this part of Louisiana.
Swamps and marshes are replaced by central Louisiana’s rolling hills and towering longleaf pines here, showing off a completely new side of the state that often gets overlooked.
When you reach the Longleaf Pine Recreation Area, you’ll have a wondrous tree-top view of the forest.
And you don’t even need to get out of your car! But just in case you do, there are picnic benches and restrooms nearby.
On a clear day, you can see for miles.
If you want to stretch your legs, take the Longleaf Vista Nature Trail through the trees.
Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way, you never know when you’ll stumble upon a herd of deer grazing off in the distance or an eagle soaring overhead.
It’s not often that you get these high-elevation views down in Louisiana, so soak it in!
Stick around until sunset for a once-in-a-lifetime show from Mother Nature.
