Farmerville Is The Tiny Louisiana Town That Transforms Into A Watermelon Wonderland Each Year

Farmerville, Louisiana, is a charming small town known for its annual Watermelon Festival and scenic Lake D'Arbonne.

I absolutely love Louisiana's small towns. They are the heartbeat of the Pelican State and they're where you'll find some of the best restaurants, shopping opportunities, and hidden gems. One of my favorite small towns in Louisiana is Farmerville, a tiny little town in Union Parish that's home to fewer than 5,000 folks. There are a lot of things to do in Farmerville, especially right now. Soon, the town will host its annual Watermelon Festival, one of the sweetest festivals in the state. Let's check it out:

Much of the town is nestled along the beautiful Lake D'Arbonne.

Lake D'Arbonne State Park is a popular spot to enjoy the water, go swimming, fishing, and hiking.

You can also rent cabins, bring your RV, or enjoy tent camping. Nearby, the D'Arbonne Lake Motel, which is also located right on the water, is another affordable accommodation that's convenient to downtown.

During the month of July, the town goes all out for the annual Louisiana Watermelon Festival.

The festival takes place July 27-30th, 2023, and the whole town comes together to celebrate.

Businesses decorate their storefronts, people start wearing their vintage festival shirts... it's a vibe.

2023 marks the 60th year for the festival, and you won't want to miss it.

There will be plenty of food, music, games, and entertainment to go around, plus the annual watermelon contest to see which local farmer grew the biggest watermelon of the season.

Speaking of contests, there will be plenty of contests for you to sign up for.

Watermelon eating contests, seed spitting contests... you name it!

Swing by the arts and crafts corner to check out some of Louisiana's local artists and pick up some items to take home.

From home decor to homemade spice blends to candles and clothing, there's a little bit of everything!

Visit the Farmerville Watermelon Festival website for more information, and be sure to follow the Farmerville Watermelon Festival on Facebook so you can stay up to date on any announcements as the festival gets closer.
