Can you believe that Christmas is less than a week away? Indiana's been preparing for this wonderful time of year all month with light shows, reindeer attractions, and other fun-filled winter events. The best attraction of all, however, might just be this magical Indiana Christmas town where all the letters to Santa are sent.
Located in southern Indiana, Santa Claus is a small town best known for its year-round holiday cheer and jolly attitude.
Santa Claus is perhaps most famous for its amusement park, Holiday World, a theme park centering around every major holiday. The town is also famous for its Christmas themed shops and attractions, from Rudolph's Campground to Frosty's Fun Center. You may have heard of this festive town before, but did you know that this tiny town receives and answers all of the letters written to Santa each year?
Every year, when kids address letters to Santa, Santa Claus, the North Pole, Jolly Lane, or any other holiday themed name, the U.S. Post office delivers them to Santa Claus, Indiana. A group of volunteers helps ensure every letter is answered and sent back through the Santa Claus post office.
The town originally became known as Santa Claus in the mid 1850s, when residents found out their original name, Santa Fe, already existed in Indiana. Eventually residents agreed to name the small town Santa Claus, and letters to Santa began arriving by accident before this cheery town took on this holiday task.
Of course, you can see all of this in action, and more, when you visit this enchanting town. Check out incredible events like Santa Claus Land of Lights, an interactive lights show with storyboards.
You can also visit Santa's Candy Castle and much more! Visit the historic Santa Claus post office to learn more about how this small town manages to respond to every child's letter to Santa each year. You can be sure this visit will be truly unforgettable.
