Ahh, A1A. The beauty of this stretch of road knows no bounds. If you're familiar with driving in Florida, then you likely have a favorite part of A1A, which is a huge north-to-south Florida State Road running over 338 miles along the Atlantic Ocean. This route is wonderfully impressive, running all the way from Key West at the southern tip of the state to Fernandina Beach, just south of Georgia on Amelia Island. And while the entire stretch is beautiful in its own right, I'm quite partial to the under-the-radar slice of the route running from Wabasso Beach north to Juan Ponce de León Landing. While it's just shy of 20 miles in total, this scenic drive in Florida features miles and miles of rolling waves and is certainly a sight to see.
Scenic A1A in Florida, also known as Florida State Road A1A, is perhaps one of the most beautiful stretches of road in the entire state. But today, we’re focusing on the scenic slice from Wabasso Beach up to Juan Ponce de León Landing.
Wabasso Beach is situated on A1A outside of the namesake town, boasting a relax atmosphere and tranquil shoreline. Picture rolling waves, lush vegetation, and more as you coast north.
There are plenty of places to stop along the way on this almost-20-mile stretch, including spots like Pelican Island National wildlife Refuge, McCarty Treasure Museum, and more.
Keep driving (and make sure your windows are down!) as you head toward Sebastian Inlet State Park. This is a truly magical area featuring turquoise waters and tons of boats gliding across the water’s surface. A great vantage point here is high above the Sebastian Inlet Bridge.
If you’re feeling peckish along the drive, there are plenty of restaurants that offer incredible views. Cafe Coconut Cove outside of Melbourne Beach is a great example of waterfront views as you dine.
This stretch of A1A passes through numerous charming seaside communities, each with its unique character and attractions. You can make an entire day out of it stopping and exploring all there is in the area.
