Here’s What To Do When It Rains During Your Beach Vacation
You’ve spent weeks planning the perfect beach getaway. Your bag is crammed with summery clothes and gallons of sunscreen. You arrive at your destination only to find…it’s pouring rain. What should you do when the weather won’t cooperate with your beach plans?
Fret not: there are plenty of awesome ways to wait out the rain.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

I know, I know. Browsing oil paintings is hardly the same as stretching out under the sun. But soaking up a bit of local culture along with all those rays is the perfect way to round out your vacation with something a bit more cerebral than a beach read. Plus, you’ll be nice and dry indoors.

Make the most of the dreary weather and turn the downtime into you-time. Find a local spa and treat yourself to a day of pampering. Hey, you’re on vacation.

Preferably heated. It may not be quite the same as digging your toes into hot sand, but you really can't argue with a Jacuzzi and heated water. Don't let that new bathing suit go to waste.

Hey, if you can’t warm up outside, might as well try warming up from the inside out. Try to find a great place to curl up with a hot cup of coffee and watch the rain or grab the gang and check out a trendy ramen spot for something filling and spicy.

Skip the mall and hunt down some local boutiques or shops selling handmade wares. Take your time finding the perfect souvenir or gift for someone back home. You’ll be able to say you traveled off the beaten path to pick out their bauble and no one has to know you were just waiting for the drizzle outside to subside.

Pick up an umbrella and get exploring. Especially if you’re visiting a more touristy beach locale, a walk in the rain can be the perfect way to experience the area in a more quiet, intimate way than would normally be possible with hordes of visitors wandering around. When the rain drives everyone else indoors, take the opportunity to appreciate a bit of solitude outside.
