The answer is actually pretty straightforward – about 70 days. This is the latest intel from, which just released the results of its annual airfare study. They considered 917 million fares for over 3 million flights across America.

The data showed that booking about two months in advance – 54 days, to be exact – will get you the best deal. Depending on holidays and weekends, checking out the going rate for flights at the 70-day mark is a good idea.

The study also revealed that summer trips should be booked about 47 days in advance, while fall trips are cheapest when booked between 62 to 69 days ahead of time.
