Not Putting Your Phone In Airline Mode While Flying Could Cost You Hundreds

If you’re one of those people who always forgets to switch their smartphone to airplane mode while flying, you might want to keep reading.

It turns out that neglecting to change the setting on your handset might result in hundreds of dollars of fees from your phone company.

The Irish Times recently reported on an incident where a man accidentally racked up $300 in roaming charges after a flight to the U.S. Even though his phone wasn’t in use during the flight, he had forgotten to switch it to airplane mode.

Apparently, the antennas on some planes can automatically connect with phones that aren’t on airplane mode and run up charges with the phone company.

Just one more reason to follow your flight crew’s instructions and make sure your phone is ready to fly.
