There’s A Secret Code That Might Make Your Hotel Room Safe Worthless
Locking up your valuables in that hotel room safe may not be as secure as you think.
A new YouTube video from “LockPickingLawyer” demonstrates just how simple it is for someone with a bit of know-how to crack a Saflok safe. This is the brand of safe most commonly found in hotel rooms.
The video creator shows how its done by locking a safe with his personal code and then entering the wrong code to show that the safe is in fact locked.
He then punches in “999999” and the safe opens wide.
Why? Most hotels never reset the administrator code that allows them to open any room safe. This ability is important in case a guest forgets her code or leaves the safe locked when he leaves. However, it’s also a huge loophole for thieves to jump through.
If you’re worried about securing your valuables, you might want to make sure the administrator code on your hotel safe has been reset. Some hotels may also allow you to store valuables in the hotel’s main safe.
Here’s the YouTube video that shows how it’s done:
Of course, that’s not the only thing you should check when you first check in. Here’s what to do as soon as you walk into your hotel room.
